Uprising Festival Bratislava

Music festivals are what truly marks summer – wonderful music made by amazing artists can be heard everywhere around the world. People gather around on these festivals to have fun, celebrate being alive, and just enjoy themselves as much as they can. If you love dancehall and reggae, visit the Uprising Festival in Bratislava this year! Uprising Festival is one of Europe’s biggest music festivals: enjoy the fusion of laid-back spirit, major players of the reggae community, and, of course, classic Jamaican food. It is truly a festival for all who want to just chill out and enjoy the good music.

When and where will it be held?

It will be held in August 2020 at the lakeside summer resort of Zlaté Piesky. Along with the chill reggae music and good food, you will be able to enjoy authentic street art, yoga classes, and many workshops that were made for all of reggae fanatics.

What exactly is Zlaté Piesky and how do I get there?

Zlaté Piesky is a lake and summer resort in north-eastern Bratislava, Slovakia. You can reach it in several different ways. You can first reach Bratislava with a bus, train, or car. If you’re coming to Bratislava with a train, make sure to exit the train at the main train station (Hlavná stanica). If you want to reach it with a bus or a tram, you can go to tram number 4. If you’re going to the festival directly from the main train station, buses no. 61 and 74, and trolleybus no. 201 will take you to Trnavské mýto, from which you can take bus no. 53 to Zlaté Piesky. Bus no. 59 will take you from the Petržalka Train Station to Rybničná, from which you can take bus no. 65 to Zlaté Piesky, and in case you just got off at the Bus Station Mlynské nivy, you can take the bus no. 78 to Bajkalská, and then take the bus no.53 to Zlaté Piesky. There is also a night bus coming from Zlaté Piesky, bus no. N53, and it goes at 23:36, 00:06, 01:06, 02:06, 03:06, and 04:06. If you have to reach the main station during the night, additional tram service is here. The tram goes at 03:00, 03:30, 04:00, 04:30, and 05:00.

Will there be any accommodation on the lake itself?

Yes, there will! But you have to reserve it in advance, of course. You will be able to pick one of four accommodation choices, depending on which one suits you the best. If you want to be as close to the lake and festival area as you can and if you like camping, Uprising Beach Camp is here for you. It offers you toilets and showers, close distance to the festival area, and regular cleaning of the entire camp, all for 17€ per person. The area is fenced and watched by security, and the gates will be opened on Friday 23^rd August at 8am. Ak chcete ušetriť niekoľko eur, ale chcete byť blízko samotného festivalu, môžete zostať v kempe Uprising Side Camp. Tento kemp sa nachádza na trávnatej ploche vedľa obchodu Tesco a predajne Porsche a ponúka základné zariadenia, ako sú napríklad toalety. Sprchy sú v blízkosti kempu Beach Camp a rovnako ako samotný kemp, aj sprchy sú oplotené, strážené hliadkami a pravidelne sa čistia. If you want to avoid carrying around extra luggage and don’t want to build your own tent, Hotel Tent Inn is a perfect fit for you. There will be two-person tents with two camping mats in a secured area, and you can borrow two blankets in reception for a small fee. Moreover, you can even ask the receptionist to wake you up for your favourite show! The prices start at 39€ (1 tent / 2 persons / 2 nights). Oktoberfest Munich

• We probably don’t need to introduce the world’s biggest folk fest. Whether you’re a beer lover or not, you’ve most likely heard of Oktoberfest. Once you experience it, you always want to come back and if you haven’t visited it jet, it is probably on your bucket list. To get you even more excited, here are 5 fun facts about the festival you probably didn’t know.
  • It’s a wedding anniversary celebration. Oktoberfest was originally not a beer festival. The first one was organised in 1810 as a celebration of King Ludwig and Princess Therese’s wedding. It took place at Theresienwiese (Theresia meadow) and this location has remained unchanged until today. In over 200 years, it has been cancelled 24 times, mostly due to wars or diseases.
  • It starts in September Even though the greater part of the event falls into September, it’s called Oktoberfest. Why is that? Back in 1810 it did take place in October and it only lasted a week. Over the years the beginning was being moved towards sunnier, warmer and more outdoor event-appropriate mid-September and festival was prolonged. This attracted more visitors, who stayed longer and drank more beer. Cheers all around!
  • “It’s tapped!” The festival is officially opened by a gun salute followed by the mayor of Munich opening the first beer barrel and shouting “It’s tapped!”. After that ceremony the Oktoberfest is open, and visitors may begin drinking themselves.
  
• Record-setting environment Approximately 7 million litres of beer are served each year which is enough to fill almost 3 Olympic-size swimming pools. Every year there’s also a stein-carrying competition at the festival. The last record was set in 2008 by a German waitress Anita Schwartz who carried 19 beer steins over a 40-meter course.

• Family-friendly event Though taking a child to a beer festival might not seem like responsible parenting, Oktoberfest is a kid and family friendly event and hundreds of children attend every year. It opens from 9am to 10 am and offers countless amusement rides for its young visitors. There’s even a lost and found children office!

Remeselné dni ÚĽUV

The streets of Bratislava’s Old Town will host the biggest city festival Craftsmen Days ÚĽUV (Centre for Folk Art Production) for the 30th time. Traditional crafts and homemade products, which are the main attraction of the festival, will be presented by the craftsmen through direct demonstrations and you’ll be taken back to the rich history of Slovak crafts. Craftsmen Days ÚĽUV are very popular among the youngest as well, so if you’re planning to visit Bratislava with your children, it’s definitely worth combining your trip with this event.

Letný ostrov v Mníchove

One of the events that attracts the biggest number of visitors in the Munich area in summer months is definitely Isle of Summer Open Air Festival. It is an electronic-house-techno music festival that has been organized for the tenth time this year. If you are looking for the perfect way to open the festival season, this one held on 13th June in the city’s Olympia Reitanlage Riem will be the nice way to say Hello to summer! You will realize why this festival has been one of Munich’s most revered events for almost a decade now.
